Today is my third day of travel. The most intersting (and fun) parts of the day both
happened in the southeastern part of Wyoming.
Late in the day, a rain storm passed through the area I was visiting. I decided once I
entered the state and passed the city of Cheyenne that I'd like a break from driving
and drove SR210 west. The road paralleled I81, so I figured I wouldn't lose too much
time.
So, shortly after leaving the highway, I noticed some amazing sights along the road,
pulled over, and saw the rainbow pictured below. And since the western states all have
"big sky," The rainbow stretched from one end of the horizon to another.
Along the road, I stumbled upon a national forest named "Medicine Bow National
Forest." Specifically, I was in the "Pole Mountain Area" (41°
11.461'N, 105° 17.742'W). The trip through only a few of the roads of the forest
was awesome...it was just like driving an off-road vehicle (or what I'd
imagine driving an off-road vehicle feels like). My car handled the roads
extremely well...despite its relatively low underbody clearance. I was able to drive
on nearly any road and slope I encountered and drove around for at least 1.5 hours.
Unfortunately, these pictures don't really do the steepness of the roads justice, but I
thought I'd include them nonetheless.
Once I returned to the highway, but before it got dark, I also passed a strange looking
hillside that still had patches of snow all over the place.
